What is AHU System?

An Air Handling Unit (AHU) is a critical component of an HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) system designed to regulate and circulate air within a building or facility. It is commonly used in commercial, industrial, and residential applications to maintain indoor air quality and thermal comfort.

Components of an AHU:
  • Main Chamber – A metal enclosure that protects internal components.
  • Air Filters – Remove dust, pollutants, and contaminants from the air.
  • Fans (Blowers) – Ensure air movement within the system.
  • Cooling/Heating Coils – Regulate air temperature using chilled or hot water, or refrigerant.
  • Dampers & Mixing Chambers – Controls airflow & mixes fresh air with return air.
  • Humidifiers/Dehumidifiers – Adjust humidity levels when necessary.
  • Controls & Sensors – Monitor and regulate air temperature, humidity, and pressure.

Working Principle:

The AHU takes in outside or return air, filters and conditions it (cooling, heating, or humidifying as needed), and then distributes it through ductwork to different spaces. The system can also include energy recovery mechanisms to enhance efficiency.

Applications:
  • Industrial facilities (Pharmaceutical Industries, clean rooms)
  • Commercial buildings (offices, malls, hospitals)
  • Residential buildings (high-end apartments, hotels)

AHUs play a vital role in maintaining air quality, temperature, and humidity, ensuring comfort and energy efficiency in HVAC systems.
